SO MANY BIRDS YAAAAAAA

Østenvinden gjorde meget godt for trækket.

After a rainy week and a day of sickness, you can imagine how happy I was seeing the weather forecast for today- SUN, but not too hot. WIND, but only 2 m/s and NE. NO RAIN.

Luckily, I had a good team with me today, amazing Susanne Primdahl and Xenia. Real girl power as you might think.

First round we had over 25 birds in the nets, and it felt as if the birds are just jumping in all the time. Xenia was running around getting the birds out from the nets for about an hour, just because they weren’t stopping!

We had 57+6 from 13 species. Best day since I’ve arrived.

A lot of migrating species, nothing particularly special, but a nice variety including Tree Pipit (skovpiber), Yellowhammer (gulspurv), Robin (rødhals), Common Redstart (rødstjert), Dunnock (jernspurv) etc.

The morning was a bit crazy (fun crazy!), but later we had some time to discuss ageing, moulting and share knowledge between us.

20190908 085846.jpg11st year Tree Pipit. You can see the primary covers are are very brown and worn, the alula is also very brown with a dull color fringe, should have a more greenish fringe as a 2nd year. Photo: Lisa Flam

I finally got to see a 2k+ male Yellowhammer, beautiful yellow colors.
Also had some beautiful male Common redstarts (Also the less-colorful females are beautiful!!).

And last but not least- A recapture Bullfinch from 27.8.2018, back then its plumage was still unmoulted, today it was recaptured and we could see clearly that HE is moulting its body feathers. He had 2 new red feathers and lots more growing!!

Tomorrow is looking like a good day as well, I'm hoping for a nice day like today.
