Succes with the little terns

The weather forecast did not look very good for this morning, yet we decided to open the nets. But just after the station garden was opened, it started to rain. Not a long shower, so we left the nets open and walked a few laps during the rain shower. Further on in the morning we had another small shower and a small rain shower was predicted for 09:20, so we wanted to call it a day after standard time. However, 5 minutes before we originally planned to close it started to blow extremely hard so we decided to close immediately. We were just in time for the rain and closed with a total of 7 new ringed and 2 controls. 

 

After closing I decided to go out onto the beach to see if the fence was still standing. It was a good thing I went to check, because part of the fence had fallen over. I put these back upright and reinforced the fence where necessary. When I wanted to go back to the station I ran into Ulf. He had impulsively decided to place cameras at the nests of the Little Terns to map the ringed ones and see which ones he could ring. Here I assisted him and we also ringed the necessary young in advance, 19 in total.

 

 

After a while we put the cameras at some other nests and went to the nests where first the cameras were placed to catch the adults. This resulted in 5 new and 1 metal ringed recapture which we color ringed. As a bycatch we had two young ringed plovers and an adult female.
