Little Bunting in the net!
The day started with the daily morning observation. Jimmy and Joseph went out and reported a quiet and slow morning count. Even though they expected a lot of Geese (Gås) because of the wind, they didn’t see any. Still, they had some highlights: a Puffin (Lunde) was migrating south and even though it was far away, it was a very nice sighting! Beside that, a Red Kite (Rød Glente) and a Common Buzzard (Musvåge) were welcome species to be observed. All observations can be seen here.
Meanwhile, Anton and I opened the mistnets in the Stations Garden and Lighthouse Garden. We didn’t expect many birds today, but had a nice number of almost 70 birds ringed! That was mainly due to the many Goldcrests (Fuglekonge), which we had a total of 33 of. We had some recaptures, and a total of 8 Song Thrush (Sangdrossel), which all showed up directly in the beginning.
At around 10 o’ clock, the highlight of the day was found in the net: a 1K male Little Bunting (Dværgværling)! That really was a nice surprise and I am glad I had an opportunity to have a close-up look at this beautiful bird. Jimmy and Joseph also came to see the bird, as it was only the second to be caught at the Station in the autumn season.

Today was also a good day, because Joseph had baked his cake yesterday evening. It was definitely worth the waiting, it tasted really nice. Anton used some spare time to clean the house and now the entrance area looks really neat. Louis and Johan returned to the station this evening, so the house is full again! And because Jimmy was so nice to take us spontaneously to the supermarket, a nice dinner is in the making right now.
